Pizza Rolls: Salami and Mozzarella

20140525_1040312_website

I am a great  pizza fan, in fact I would eat pizza all day long but since me and my husband had a bit more time to cook on the weekend, we tried to make a different way of making pizza so we made a bread roll filled with salami (chorizo), mozzarella cheese, tomato and basil. We simply loved it because the salami and mozzarella flavour mixed really well with the bread and “the kitchen smelled wonderfully, too”. As always, I tried to simplify the bread recipe and minimize the use of fat. These pizza bread rolls can be a great snack idea to have during the football matches of FIFA World Cup. Yes, I am a big world cup fan!!!

To make these yummy pizza rolls you will need:

300 gr of strong white bread flour

1 teaspoon of salt

1/2 teaspoon of sugar

10 gr of vegetable oil

1 teaspoon (4 gr) of dried yeast

150-200 ml of  water

2 Mozzarella cheese

20 slices of chorizo

1/2 can of tomato sauce

Fresh Basil

Salt

Get ready to cook:

Add the sugar and the yeast to the flour and mix together mean while on a glass add the salt to the water and mix together. Now slowly add the water with the salt and the oil in the flour mixture, mix together and knead until you have a very soft pizza dough.

(Please note that you may need more or less water it depends upon the humidity your flour has.)

Put the dough on a plastic or glass bowl ( it has to be transparent so that it let the warmth go inside and doesn’t let it out) put a cling film to cover and let it rise for about 1 hour and 1/2 (in turned off oven but with the light on).

Meanwhile the dough is resting mix the basil and salt to the tomato sauce, chop the mozzarella and cut the salami into slices.

Once the dough has risen, roll it into a rectangular shape with a little bit of flour and add the tomato sauce, mozzarella and the slices of salami, then carefully roll it making sure there are no holes in the dough because this may cause the mozzarella to get out of the dough.

Now cook in the oven for about  35 minutes at 180 C/gas mark 4/ 325 F, when it is cooked take it out of the oven and cover it with a kitchen cloth for about 15 minutes, this way it won’t get too dry.

Enjoy!!!

I really hope you will like this recipe, we loved it so much that we finished the whole tray the very same day!!!!

Guess what football team do I support ? 🙂

I love this recipe–my stomach is growling at the prospect of making one myself–wish me luck, I’m a terrible cook. The empty microwave dinner boxes can attest to that. Thank you for sharing. This is a great blog. Outstanding.
