Mussels Recipe: Mussels Marinara

I love seafood as I find it very easy, versatile to cook and always have wonderful results. Last week when me and my husband went to do some food shopping at the supermarket, my husband noticed these delicious fresh mussels from the fish counter (and they were really cheap,too) and so we decided to cook our favourite mussels’ recipe, the Mussels Marinara. To make this recipe you will only need few ingredients, it won’t take long to cook , you will get a wonderful white wine sauce and I am sure you will love the results.

 

To make this delicious mussels Marinara you will need:

500 gr of Mussels

A handful of fresh Parsley

2 cloves of Garlic

Black Pepper

Fresh  Hot Chili

Half glass of White Wine

 

Preparation:

Now first of all, you will need to carefully clean the mussels, to do this: put the mussels into a big large bowl of cold water and swish them around to carefully clean the dirt away. After this, tap any Opened Mussel against the side of the sink if they don’t close immediately throw them away as they maybe dead and not edible. After that, leave them for 20 minutes on a bowl full of cold water, this way they will push and filter the water pushing away the sand or other minerals from the shells. Last thing to do is take away the beard (the brown bit coming from the shells) away with a knife.

Mussels ingredients

For the recipe all you have to do is : put the mussels, the chopped garlic, fresh hot chili and the parsley on a big boiling pan and cook for 5 minutes  on a high heat with the lead on. After the 5 minutes add the half glass of White Wine, the Black Pepper and continue cooking for  another 7-10 minutes on a high heat with the lead on, after that you are done!!!

I would recommend some toasted rustic bread to go with the wonderful  red wine sauce you get from the dish.

If you notice any unopened mussel after you have cooked them, don’t eat them as they are not edible!!!

I love this  kind of recipe because it is easy, it has mainly fresh ingredients, it is not expensive  and the mussels are a high protein source but with low fat content and a very good source of vitamin  B12. I think it is a perfect dish especially during summer (but to tell you the truth I cook it whenever I buy fresh mussels). It is really nice to cook something different and go out of the comfort zone, sometimes!!! Go for it!!! 🙂

  5. When you put everything (except the wine ) into a boiling pot, wouldn’t you add just a little water?
    I’m definitely going to try this recipe. We love sea food too.

    1. Hello Leslie, you don’t have to add water as the mussels will release water and if you add the half glass of water you will get enough sauce for 2 persons! Just make sure not to cook them for more than 15 minutes, once they are opened the mussels are cooked. Hope this helped! 🙂

    Very nice! I would not recommend leaving mussels too long in a small amount of standing water. Mussels need oxygen and it will be depleted soon in a small bowl.
